Why Early Intervention?

"Early intervention" means that your teen will be entering addiction treatment before the addiction takes over their lives. Take control of the situation while your teen is on his/her pre-stage of addiction. It is important to interfere as soon as you suspect your child is using drugs or abusing alcohol. Adolescents are more likely to abuse multiple substances (with prescription pills enjoying a recent surge in popularity). Also, studies have shown that teens are more likely to attempt suicide than addicted adults. Usually teens start substance abuse in a social setting and before they realize, drugs starts running their lives. Their daily focus turns into getting drugs and “getting high”. There is no one best way to talk your child into getting help and get them into an addiction treatment center. Most often then not, they do not admit they have a problem. They think everything under control. It is up to you as a parent to find out what is happening to your teen and get professional help when needed.

Sometimes your child’s pediatrician or family doctor can help. Most often parents will need professional "interventionists" to help their teens understand the need for treatment. Our teen addiction treatment center provides counselors to help with interventions. We at Inspirations Youth and Families understand that intervention is always a difficult situation, but we know, the alternative of doing nothing is the worst thing a parent can do.

Inspirations is here to help your teen and your family through this difficult process. To learn more about our teen addiction treatment services, please contact us.

Oxycodone abuse is becoming a national phenomenon among teens

Oxycodone, also called oxy or O.C., has become the cocaine among teens. Oxy price ranges from $20 to $60 a pill and when teens can no longer afford O.C., they are turning to heroin which is cheaper but just as potent and deadly as Oxycodone.

Our clinical supervisor has reported an increase on clients/teens with oxy addictions coming in last fall to our youth addiction drug and alcohol treatment center. This comes to us as no surprise as we know that prescription drugs are readily available in high schools throughout the country.

What is really alarming is that teens are reporting that they are smoking the pills instead of swallowing or snorting them. Smoking pills is more dangerous than taking them by mouth or snorting them, because the drug goes directly from the lungs to the brain, instead of being slowly absorbed through the stomach, kidney and other organs.

Sadly, Oxycodone is considered a status symbol among affluent teens and when they no longer can afford these pills they often turn to heroin which is just as potent and deadly.
